Eight Oaks

Sunday Service

All ages Sundays 10am

About 120 people meet in the main room on Halvorsen Street every Sunday at 10. We sing four or five songs, then James (or another teacher on his weeks off) spends about 25 minutes on a passage of the Bible. This fall we are working through the Gospel of Mark a few paragraphs at a time. A prayer, one more song, and we finish at 11.

The band is whoever is on the volunteer rota that week: usually a guitar, a keyboard and two singers. The words are on the screen and in a large-print sheet at the welcome table.

You'll find a printed bulletin with the songs and the Bible passage on your seat, and someone at the door who will point you to coffee and the kids check-in.

Nobody will ask you to stand up, introduce yourself or fill anything in. If you want to leave right at 11, that's fine. If you want to stay and talk, most people are still in the foyer at 11:30.

Who runs it: James Holloway

Pastor (since 2014)

James came to Eight Oaks in 2014 as the church's second pastor, after nine years as a chaplain at a hospital in Joliet. He preaches most Sundays, leads Wednesday Youth, and runs the First Visit Class. He meets one-on-one with anyone who asks, and his cell number is on the bulletin for emergencies. He and Rachel have three kids: two in Eight Oaks Kids and one in the youth group.

When it runs

Every Sunday of the year. We close only for severe weather, and on the Sunday after the Fourth of July, when small groups host lunches at home instead.
