First Visit Class

Newcomers First Sunday, 11:15am

First Visit Class meets on the first Sunday of every month in the room behind the foyer, from about 11:15 to 12:15. It's for anyone who has been to at least one Sunday service and wants to know more.

James spends 15 minutes on how Eight Oaks started and how a normal week works. The rest of the hour is questions. Recent ones: what happens at communion, what members are asked to do, how the church handles money, and what to do when you're not sure what you believe.

Coffee and something to eat are on the table. Coming to the class doesn't sign you up for anything. Membership is a separate conversation, if and when you want it.

Who runs it: James Holloway

Pastor (since 2014)

James came to Eight Oaks in 2014 as the church's second pastor, after nine years as a chaplain at a hospital in Joliet. He preaches most Sundays, leads Wednesday Youth, and runs the First Visit Class. He meets one-on-one with anyone who asks, and his cell number is on the bulletin for emergencies. He and Rachel have three kids: two in Eight Oaks Kids and one in the youth group.
