Eight Oaks Youth

Grades 6 to 12 Wednesdays 7 to 8:30pm

Youth meets on Wednesday evenings from September to May in the lower-level meeting room. The night goes the same way each week: 15 minutes of arriving and card games, a 25-minute talk from the Bible, half an hour in small groups (middle school and high school separately), and snacks before pickup.

This year the group is reading through the book of Acts. The small-group time is where most of the talking happens, with two adult leaders in every group.

Once a quarter the group does a service project away from the church, such as a Saturday shift at the food pantry or raking leaves for neighbors on Halvorsen Street. Parents hear about each one two weeks ahead.

Who runs it: James Holloway

Pastor (since 2014)

James came to Eight Oaks in 2014 as the church's second pastor, after nine years as a chaplain at a hospital in Joliet. He preaches most Sundays, leads Wednesday Youth, and runs the First Visit Class. He meets one-on-one with anyone who asks, and his cell number is on the bulletin for emergencies. He and Rachel have three kids: two in Eight Oaks Kids and one in the youth group.

When it runs

School year only, September to May. In summer there is a cookout about once a month, organized by parents.
